Summary

A missing woman。
A husband suspected。
The truth will … Take Your Breath Away

It’s always the husband, isn’t it?

One weekend, while Andrew Mason was on a fishing trip, his wife, Brie, vanished without a trace。 Most people assumed Andy had got away with murder, but the police couldn’t build a strong case against him。 For a while, Andy hit rock bottom – he drank too much, was abandoned by his friends, nearly lost his business and became a pariah in the place he had once called home。

Now, six years later, Andy has put his life back together。 He’s sold the house he shared with Brie and moved away for a fresh start。 When he hears his old house has been bulldozed and a new house built in its place, he’s not bothered。 He’s settled with a new partner, Jayne, and life is good。

But Andy’s peaceful world is about to shatter。 One day, a woman shows up at his old address, screaming, ‘Where’s my house? What’s happened to my house?' And then, just as suddenly as she appeared, the woman – who bears a striking resemblance to Brie – is gone。 The police are notified and old questions – and dark suspicions – resurface。

Could Brie really be alive after all these years? If so, where has she been? It soon becomes clear that Andy’s future, and the lives of those closest to him, depends on discovering what the hell is going on。 The trick will be whether he can stay alive long enough to unearth the answers…

My second book I’ve read by Linwood Barclay and I will read more。 I love how you cannot guess the ending to the book, his books are so unpredictable and fast paced。 At one point, I felt really on edge as the suspense built。Linwood Barclay should have his books as Netflix series !

Take Your Breath Away is another fast paced rollercoaster of a story by Linwood Barclay。 It had plenty of twists and turns to keep me guessing and keep me turning the pages well past bedtime。 I could not fault it。Thank you to NetGalley and HQ for my ARC。

I have been a long time fan of Linwood Barclay so was really eager to read his latest book and it certainly didn't disappoint。This book felt a bit more like some of his earlier works like No Time For Goodbye or Too Close To Home which was amazing as I feel like he has diverted from that writing style recently。I though the mystery was suitable and every storyline was dramatic and chaotic but so believable。 There were a good few twists and turns too which I always love in these thrillers。 A great I have been a long time fan of Linwood Barclay so was really eager to read his latest book and it certainly didn't disappoint。This book felt a bit more like some of his earlier works like No Time For Goodbye or Too Close To Home which was amazing as I feel like he has diverted from that writing style recently。I though the mystery was suitable and every storyline was dramatic and chaotic but so believable。 There were a good few twists and turns too which I always love in these thrillers。 A great book。 。。。more

This is first book I've read by this author and I was quite entertained by it。 I sort of guessed who the culprit was early on but there is always that element of doubt。 Missing persons like Brie are always intriguing and in many cases you don't find out what has happened to them, which must be terrible for their family。The storyline kept me gripped and I wanted to find what happened。 This is first book I've read by this author and I was quite entertained by it。 I sort of guessed who the culprit was early on but there is always that element of doubt。 Missing persons like Brie are always intriguing and in many cases you don't find out what has happened to them, which must be terrible for their family。The storyline kept me gripped and I wanted to find what happened。 。。。more

Another great book from Netgally thank you。 Andrew and Brie a married happy couple until the worst thing happens。 Brie is home on her own as Andrew is away at his cabin for the weekend fishing。 He has his own cabin and his friend Greg also has a cabin and they meet up just to get away from work。 They have been friends for years and enjoy each other’s company。 While Andrew is away Brie goes missing。 He had spoken to her on the Saturday evening and does not realise until he gets home Sunday aftern Another great book from Netgally thank you。 Andrew and Brie a married happy couple until the worst thing happens。 Brie is home on her own as Andrew is away at his cabin for the weekend fishing。 He has his own cabin and his friend Greg also has a cabin and they meet up just to get away from work。 They have been friends for years and enjoy each other’s company。 While Andrew is away Brie goes missing。 He had spoken to her on the Saturday evening and does not realise until he gets home Sunday afternoon。 The police have Andrew as the prime suspect and he feels that they do not do their job properly as it is easy to pin the crime on him。 He becomes a mess, drinking too much and losing work。 He sells his home with a view to try and start again and his friend, Greg, supports him throughout as Brie’s family are very anti him especially Isabel, Brie’s sister, who is convinced he has murdered her and hassles the police all the time for him to be arrested for her disappearance。 Eventually he makes a life for himself with another lady, Jayne, and starts to become happy again even though he has no idea what happened to Brie。 Then a bomb drops。 Brie is seen in several places and then the police are on his case again。 He had not told Jayne but the police certainly told her the story which causes her to feel anxious – what happens if Brie comes back into Andrew’s life。 The story picks up pace and throws you into all sorts of directions。 Is she alive or not。 Up until towards the end of the book I could not be sure who the culprit was and did not see the result coming。 A great book and full of interesting intrigue 。。。more

Linwood Barclay has an amazing imagination- his books are always so clever。 They are the sort of books I cannot put down until I get to the very end。 “Take Your Breath Away” was no exception and it was so well plotted that I really couldn’t guess what the outcome would be: even when I got to the last few pages there were still more surprises!Andrew’s wife, Brie , disappeared 6 years previously when he was away on a fishing trip with his best friend, Greg。 Brie has not been seen since and everyon Linwood Barclay has an amazing imagination- his books are always so clever。 They are the sort of books I cannot put down until I get to the very end。 “Take Your Breath Away” was no exception and it was so well plotted that I really couldn’t guess what the outcome would be: even when I got to the last few pages there were still more surprises!Andrew’s wife, Brie , disappeared 6 years previously when he was away on a fishing trip with his best friend, Greg。 Brie has not been seen since and everyone, including the police and Brie’s relatives believe that Andrew killed her。 It just can’t be proven。Andrew has moved from the house he shared with his wife, changed his surname and started again with Jayne who knows nothing about his background。When a woman claiming to be Brie turns up at Andrew’s old home, he cannot believe it and nor can the police。 Investigations recommence and very quickly matters escalate。 However the woman cannot be traced and if it is Brie, where has she been for the last 6 years? The story is mainly told from Andrew’s point of view so it is difficult to know if he is telling the truth。 Is he an unreliable narrator? He claims he didn’t do it but can we as readers believe him? This is such a great read which was a real page turner。 I loved all the twists and turns and the question about whether Brie was still alive is a brilliant plot device。Linwood Barclay is an expert in his field and always provides entertaining reads。 I highly recommend this one to all his fans and to anyone who loves a well written mystery that both entertains and enthrals。It certainly kept me up reading late into the night which is always the sign of a great book! Thanks to NetGalley and HQ publishers for my arc。 。。。more

"It's always the husband, isn't it?" This is a main theme in this book after Andrew's wife Brie goes missing without a trace while he is away on a fishing trip with his best friend Greg。 Brie's family think he did it, the police think he did it and he certainly had motive and opportunity。 There just isn't any evidence no matter how hard the detective on the case wants there to be and believe me she is gunning for Andrew。 However, six years pass Andrew has now changed his surname and is living a "It's always the husband, isn't it?" Why is she turning up at places but not speaking to anyone and why isn't she reporting to the police if something bad happened to her。 With each sighting of Brief more and more questions are asked, meanwhile someone is very VERY unhappy that Brie might be back and they will stop at nothing to find out where she is, no matter who might get in the way。 I liked the premise of this book, and there are so many possibilities with what is happening and just when you think you know who the baddie is。。。 it changes again, I did have my suspicions。While the book was entertaining and I finished it quite quickly something was missing for me。。。 it was a little clunky but overall it was an enjoyable read。 I have never read any of the authors other books so I would be willing to try out something else to see what it is like。 If you are a fan of who done it style books then, this might be for you。 There were plenty of likeable and really unlikeable characters in this book and that always makes it interesting。 A few plot holes that didn't ruin the story but would have been nice to be tied up and a really neat twist at the end that I personally enjoyed。 Thank you to the author, NetGalley and Harlequin Australia, HQ for an advance copy for an honest review。 。。。more

I am a huge fan of Linwood Barclay and this one is up with his best! A novel with an interesting premise - a woman who disappeared several years ago and believed murdered by her husband, suddenly reappears - is she the same person, or is somebody playing a trick。 With scenes from present day and others from the time of the disappearance, it is well plotted and provides plenty of theories and clues。 One of the flashback scenes refers to vaccine hesitancy, so a bit of an editing faux pas occurred somewhere along the line。 Okay, but not completely engaging。

My Recommendation This is Barclay at his superb best。 I’ve read all of his books and he has never failed to impress。 Take you breath away certainly does that, it literally takes your breath away。 The story is based around the mysterious disappearance of Andy Masons wife Brie six years ago。 Brie’s sister Isabelle and the police officer investigating the case all believe its Andy but can’t provide any proof。 Andy has moved to a different place, changed his surname and has a new partner。 His life My Recommendation This is Barclay at his superb best。 I’ve read all of his books and he has never failed to impress。 Take you breath away certainly does that, it literally takes your breath away。 The story is based around the mysterious disappearance of Andy Masons wife Brie six years ago。 Brie’s sister Isabelle and the police officer investigating the case all believe its Andy but can’t provide any proof。 Andy has moved to a different place, changed his surname and has a new partner。 His life is going fairly well when a woman resembling Brie turns up at their old street and has a panic attack on finding their old home has been pulled down and a new one built in its place。 Events escalate from there。 There are a couple of subplots which merge nicely at the conclusion of the story。The book has plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing。 Barclay has made characters you can hear speak from the pages, the character development is excellent, the story simply enhances them。 I was engaged with the story from the beginning, Barclay knows how to write brilliant books, I highly recommend reading this one。 Thanks to NetGalley and HQ for this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion。 。。。more

There's so much going on in this book that the author must have needed mind-maps and coloured charts to keep track of it all when plotting the story! Despite that, the finished book worked amazingly well and did not confuse the reader with its weaving sub-plots。 There were many deliberate mis-directions and suspicions thrown along the way, and as intended, I became suspicious of almost everyone at some point。 The ending had quite a few surprises and they kept on coming right up to the last few s There's so much going on in this book that the author must have needed mind-maps and coloured charts to keep track of it all when plotting the story! If not, who is impersonating her and why? This book is a murder mystery but is also great entertainment from beginning to end - hence my 5 stars。 。。。more

As usual in my reviews, I will not rehash the plot (plenty of reviews like that out there if that's what you're looking for!)I've read several books by Linwood Barclay, and couldn't wait to read this one! As usual, I was not disappointed。。。An excellent plot, well written and realistic characters, and that special Linwood Barclay twisty-turny magic that keeps you turning the pages into the small hours!I didn't expect this to end as it did, which was an added bonus - that final twist set the seal As usual in my reviews, I will not rehash the plot (plenty of reviews like that out there if that's what you're looking for!)I've read several books by Linwood Barclay, and couldn't wait to read this one! The title of Linwood Barclay's latest novel is particularly apt as, with all his books, he is able to take your breath away。 His tales are consistently brilliant; there is drama, intrigue, mystery as well as plot twists and the odd dash of necessary violence。 Six years ago Andrew's wife Brie disappeared and he was the obvious culprit; now, after a tough few years he has rebuilt his life until。。。。!
